WiF Winter 2005-06 Game

During the Fall of 2005 we decided to try a one map 1939 European campaign game. Our schedules were busy, but we did get to meet a few times. The game was setup for a few months, but we didn’t get to finish it.Although, it was an interesting beginning to a game.

ALLIED POWERS

France/Russia = Bill

Commonwealth/USA = John

AXIS POWERS

Germany/Italy = Kevin

Two of the three participants, John and Bill. Looks like John needs a coffee! :)

John and I posing for posterity. The game is all setup and ready to go.

Bill and I showing off the map. We didn’t have a place to play, so we are using my mother’s downstairs room (which is still littered with many of my belongings!).

A closer view of the map. Poland has just been taken out. Rumania has been declared in the war (Sep/Oct 1939). The Italians have invaded Egypt and the Sudan.

Here is a look at the impending invasion of France. The Brits landed in Holland by the Belgian border before this photo. That really stymied my progress and delayed my attack on Belgium. This one move saved France for a long time. France lived until Mar/Apr 1941. Ouch!!

Below are pictures of our positions from the last turn that we played... May/June 1941.

I broke out some lucky charms to hopefully turn the tide of war! The Kaiser and Bismarck! :)

My luck did begin to change too... The Italians conquered the Middle East and North Africa (while the Germans were bogged down in France).

Due to a positive US Entry (I guess) and nothing else to do, John took over Ireland and Portugal for not seeing things the English way. In retaliation for these acts of aggression, Spain declared itself a full Axis partner and joined Germany in its struggle against the CW (it was couped successfully). WWII then raged on in the Iberian Peninsula. Can Gibralter hold on until the USA enters the war?

Here is a look at England. Have enough ships John? The treacherous Netherlands TRS sailed over to the UK early on. Damn I wanted that transport. The UK also has some French gov’t-in-exile troops (France was conquered by Germany). The Brits also retained some Polish units as well.

Here is a look at the Russian front. John knew I wasn’t going to attack Russia until 1942 (or never), so he moved up to put some pressure on me by increasing the border garrison.

The Production Chart. Notice the damaged Italian ships. The Brits bloodied the Italians a little bit earlier on.

US Entry was looking pretty good, and John was picking options that were beginning to scare me.

Here was the Resource situation by the end of May/June 1941. Although I was slowed down in France, my production was up there. Spain helped out in this department.
